The purpose of the course is to help participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing, and first aid emergencies; to know how to care for a suddenly injured or ill person until more advanced medical personnel arrive and take over. Infant, child and adult skills are covered in this course. The American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric Blended Learning class is divided into two sessions: an online session (time range is 25 minutes to 3 hours 30 minutes depending on pre-assessment) and then a subsequent skills session (scheduled for 2 hours 30 minutes). To complete the course requirements and receive a course completion certificate, a participant must be able to complete all required skills proficiently without any coaching or assistance during the assessment scenarios. Upon meeting the criteria for course completion and demonstration of competency, participants will receive a 2-year American Red Cross certification.

The ParaPro Assessment measures the skills and knowledge in reading, writing and math possessed by prospective and practicing paraprofessionals. It also measures their ability to apply those skills and knowledge when assisting in classroom instruction. It was designed to satisfy the requirements of the federally legislated No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB). The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), which has replaced NCLB, leaves these requirements in place. Test takers have two and a half hours to complete the test. The test is for prospective and practicing paraprofessionals. The state of Arizona requires a score of 459 to pass the assessment. Test subjects include reading, writing and math. The test has 90 multiple-choice questions, approximately two-thirds of which focus on basic skills and knowledge. The remaining one-third focus on applying skills in the classroom. All test questions are in English.
